The Icelandic and ethereal Sunna Fridjons guides us through her unapologetically written songs and textured cinematic pieces, all infused with fantasy and mystical realms filling your mind with otherworldly pictures. Sunna is never far from the risk of a new genre, and she is currently blurring the lines of metal, pop and cinematic structures and instrumentation as she creates her third album. Her previous releases consist of earthy chamber pop songs, and somewhat of progressive rock in her second album, and always intertwined with textured cinematic instrumental pieces. With a broad range of influences in her teens from Emiliana Torrini, Tori Amos, Agnes Obel, Lykke Li, Sóley and more, Sunna has always stood out with her raw arrangements of strings, winds, and the piano she plays so effortlessly, with her bare and powerful vocals. Having studied classical performance her whole life with a love of dreamy indie pop and cinematic music, Sunna finds a space in between, creating wondrous worlds for people to escape into.
Sunna comes from a background in classical music which she studied from when she was 7 years old until she was 21, the moment she switched her focus from a single instrument which in her case is the flute, towards songwriting, composing, and performing her original music. Sunna graduated with a BA in music from the Iceland Academy of Arts in 2017 and has since been performing and releasing music, as well as pursuing other passions as an entrepreneur and energy worker. Sunna has composed pieces for Icelandic flutists and flute ensembles, cello, french horn, as well as having composed and arranged all of her music, songs and instrumental pieces, both acoustic which is more on the classical side, as well as modern progressive pop and rock songs. With two albums released since her first debut, and gaining popularity as a composer with instrumentalists in Iceland - Sunna is now working on her third album while also composing for others, and is finally back to performing live and releasing new music after years of healing from burnout.
